Here’s who’s we think will win the Copa América semifinals

The 2024 Copa America has reached the semifinals, and we’re down to the final four teams in the tournament. Argentina, Canada, Colombia, and Uruguay all still have a chance over the next couple of days to book their place into the Copa América final with a chance to lift the trophy.

Each team had to battle to make it to this point, with three of the four quarterfinal matches coming down to penalties. Fireworks are still on the menu for these two matches with each team capable of winning and moving on. There is still plenty of soccer to be made, but for the fans, it means a lot of action as these teams try to be the last one standing.

So, who do we think will win these semifinal matches and advance to the final in Miami Here’s our thoughts.

Argentina vs. Canada

Tuesday, July 9th, 8pm ET (FS1, Univision)

This semifinal is a rematch of the opening match, which Argentina won 2-0 in Atlanta. Now, they hit the bright lights of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which will mean a very hot, humid evening that could affect play. Both of these teams advanced to the semifinals via penalties, so this could mean a chance for the play on the field to open up a bit as the game progresses.

Argentina will try to push for a goal early to try and put pressure on Canada, who have only scored two goals in this tournament. However, the longer the match goes without a goal, the more the advantage goes to a Canada team that will have the confidence to pull off yet another upset. They need their playmakers to…make plays. That’s the only way they can take down the reigning Copa América and World Cup champions.

Prediction: Argentina is too much for Canada, winning 3-0.

Colombia vs. Uruguay

Wednesday, July 10, 8pm ET (FS1, Univision)

Colombia is the hottest team on the planet. They enter riding a 27-match unbeaten streak dating back to March 2022, and they’re the only team that won their quarterfinal in regulation. They did so in big fashion, stomping Panama, 5-0. They now try to take out Uruguay, a team they drew in World Cup qualifying in October. They have their eyes set on the big prize, a chance to win their first Copa América title since 2001.

Uruguay advanced to the semifinals by beating Brazil on penalties, giving them an extra dose of confidence that they can get back to the top of South America. They’ve won games in every fashion — with ease, grinding out close wins, and winning from the penalty spot. They will need to utilize all of their assets in this one, but they can put it all together and get back to the Copa América final for the first time since they won it all in 2011.

Prediction: Colombia continues to get it done. It’s a 2-2 draw, but Colombia advances on penalties.
