This is our first page in our Mount Rushmore facts printable set!
  1. Mount Rushmore is a colossal sculpture carved into the side of a mountain in Keystone, South Dakota. 
  2. It contains the heads of four U.S. presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. 
  3. It was designed and sculpted by American sculptor Gutzon Borglum.
  4. Each head is 60 feet high. The four presidents on Mount Rushmore represent the United States’ birth, growth, development, and preservation.
  5. The construction of Mount Rushmore started on October 4th, 1927, and ended on October 31st, 1941. That’s 14 years!

  1. In 2018, over 2.3 million tourists visited Mount Rushmore.
  2. Originally, Mount Rushmore was designed to contain the head to the waist of each president, but the funds ran out and the project wasn’t completed. 
  3. The most complete figure is George Washington.
  4. 400 people were needed to carve Mount Rushmore, and sculptor Borglum was 60 years old when he started carving it. 
  5. 90% of Mount Rushmore was carved by means of dynamite.
