Steps to Make Coffee Filter Flowers- green, blue, black, orange, red, and yellow water color painted on coffee filters
These coffee filters roses are easy to paint, cut, and glue to make beautiful roses.

Using watercolor paints (or watered down tempura paints) and a large, soft brush, kids can gently brush the colors over the coffee filters adding different areas of color on each circle.

Tip: A large soft brush has been the easiest to use without ripping the coffee filters in my experience especially with younger artists.

Step 3

Let the painted coffee filters dry.

Step 4

Once the coffee filters have dried, you can start turning them into coffee filter flowers:

  2. Starting in the middle of the coffee filter swirl, start rolling the cut strip around the middle.
  3. Secure the end with glue or tape.

Our Experience with This Coffee Filter Rose Craft

Paint your roses any colors you want!
  • Since my preschooler loves to paint, we wanted to come up with a way to paint and to make more roses.
  • So, we grabbed some  coffee filters.
  • I love using coffee filters as a canvas for watercolors because the colors spread and mix together as you paint.  The blending of the vibrant colors are what make these roses such a special coffee filter craft.
  • I adore coffee filter crafts.
  • I don’t brew any coffee at home, but I somehow  always have an excess of coffee filters. The good news is that having them has inspired lots of coffee filter crafts.

Ways to Use Coffee Filter Flowers

One of the things I love about making coffee filter flowers is that they also make great gifts…even kid-made gifts. The end result of this coffee filter roses craft is surprisingly colorful, delicate and beautiful even when making these with smaller children.

They make lovely home decoration, great gifts and work well to decorate packages and presents:

  • Use your coffee filter flowers to make a bouquet for mom for Mothers Day!
  • Paint your coffee filters red, white and blue to make patriotic table decorations for 4th of July.
  • Grab your best friends together and make coffee filter flowers for a slumber party or as a tea party activity.
  • Have the entire classroom make coffee filter flowers and then use them to decorate the class or a special bulletin board in the school hall.
  • Finished coffee filter flowers are pretty durable, you could add them to a headband or use them in a nosegay or corsage.
