How are Lego Bricks Made?

Now, if you’re like me you think you have a general idea of how they’re made, but you’d be wrong.

Even though Lego has only been around for about fifty years, they’ve already been voted ‘toy of the century’…twice.

There is Lego movies.

Lego food.

Lego theme park you can take your kids to!

Lego’s captivate our imagination because we can build them into ANYTHING.

And Lego has proven that by coming out with amazing kit after kit after kit to completely blow our minds (and keep us wanting more!). And they’re always brining us great new products.

I imagined an assembly line with a plastic press and sorting bins.

And while that’s part of it, I was no where near close to what actually happens!

Where Are Legos Made?

Did you know Legos are made in a few different countries? The USA is not one of them!

They are actually made in 4 different facilities around the world!

  • Denmark
  • Hungary
  • Mexico
  • China
  • Czech Republic

The original Lego company who first started making Lego toys was actually in Denmark.

The original name for Legos were Danish words LEg GOdt. It means play well. How cool?

When Were The Legos Invented?

So, we saw how Legos were made, but when were they made? The first Legos were actually made in Billund, Denmark. The company was started in 1932, and it is so sweet because the Danish toymaker was aided by his 12-year-old son!

They weren’t plastic when they were first made, but wooden. They wouldn’t be made with new materials and Lego molds until later. Almost a decade later they would be the plastic toys we know and love.

When Were Legos Mass Produced?

While the LEGO company started making them in 1932, they didn’t become a household name and were not plastic and mass produced by a moulding machine until 1947.

Lego wouldn’t open up Lego factories and start production of Legos until much later in other countries, but they quickly became the toy of the century.

What Are LEGOS Made WIth?

I mean, we all know LEGOs are plastic. But what what are actually in them? They’re study, colorful, and last forever it seems. Turns out, there is a lot of chemistry that is involved. It has stuff in it like acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (abs), polybutadiene, and plastic granules. A lot more go into it, but that’s some technical stuff!

There are a total of 3,764 unique LEGO blocks available. This is based on all of their LEGO sets.

How Many Lego Blocks Are There On Earth?

This is going to blow your mind. There are about 400,000,000,000 LEGO blocks on Earth. Yes, that’s 400 billion!

What Is The Rarest LEGO Block?

The rarest LEGO block was never sold to the public. It was actually given to employees. The rarest LEGO block was released in the 1980s and is worth $15,000. Why so expensive? Because it is solid 14k gold!
