One of the most troubling things about the Trump assassination attempt was the abject failure of the Secret Service on so many levels. The failure to secure the roof, the failure to deal with the suspect although law enforcement was aware of him at least an hour beforehand. The failure to stop former President Donald Trump from going out on stage despite the Secret Service knowing there was a threat at least 10 minutes before Trump went on. The failure to stop or know the shooter was flying a drone over the site that same day of the shooting.

There was also the failure of Kim Cheatle, the Secret Service director, to answer questions and be transparent about how this all happened. Remember when she offered there may have been a problem dealing with the shooter because the roof was sloped?
When you’re running away from senators who are furious and peppering you with questions that you’re refusing to answer, you may just have a problem. And Joe Biden should already have fired her for how this was handled. But as I noted in my Bill Maher story where Maher called this out, the reaction of Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg deflecting, stalling responses are typical of this administration.

NEW: Shooter Was Able to Do One More Unbelievable Thing Before Trump Assassination Attempt
Now, the DHS head Alejandro Mayorkas has issued a statement from his X account. But, it does not provide any further explanation of facts of the assassination attempt. Instead, it’s an infuriating statement that completely ignores the concerns of Americans for what he calls the criticism of “women in law enforcement” after the shooting:
Statement regarding recent comments questioning the presence of women in law enforcement: https://t.co/NaTdDM0R85 pic.twitter.com/dkCY7Yoalb
— Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas (@SecMayorkas) July 20, 2024
“In the days following the attempted assassination of former President Trump, some people have made public statements questioning the presence of women in law enforcement, including in the United States Secret Service.
“These assertions are baseless and insulting.
“Every single day, in communities big and small across our great country, women are serving in federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and campus law enforcement. They are highly trained and skilled professionals, who risk their lives on the front lines for the safety and security of others. They are brave and selfless patriots who deserve our gratitude and respect.
“We in the United States Department of Homeland Security — the largest law enforcement organization in the federal government — will, with great pride, focus, and devotion to mission, continue to recruit, retain, and elevate women in our law enforcement ranks. Our Department will be the better for it, and our country more secure.”
If you look at the statement on the DHS website, they attribute it to 11 different people including Mayorkas and Cheatle. Imagine taking 11 people to write tha,t and not having one of them realize how clueless and missing the point the statement is. They seem to be more offended by the alleged criticism of women on the detail than the fact that they almost let the former president be killed; he was shot, one man, Corey Comperatore, was in fact killed, and two were seriously injured.
The criticisms weren’t of women serving in law enforcement, but of things like women not having the body mass to cover the president when you have to throw your body in front of a big guy like Trump, for example.

So, this was a deflection by Mayorkas et al., not to answer the greater questions; he was just excoriated by Americans for this ridiculous effort. They weren’t going to let him get away with it.
THIS is what you’re most concerned about? How about firing the Director of the Secret Service – not because she’s a woman but because she abjectly failed to protect a recent, and probably next President of the United States? https://t.co/tluHOFhIer
