The Buffalo Bills and Stefon Diggs had perhaps the most notable divorce of the NFL offseason this past spring. The Bills traded the star wide receiver to the Houston Texans for a second-round draft pick, ending one of the league’s most spectacular QB-WR connections with Josh Allen.
Allen was phenomenal on the Bills, averaging 1,343 yards receiving and more than nine touchdowns per year across his four seasons with the team. At 30 years old, the Bills believed they had to move on from him to gain more salary cap flexibility and give a bigger opportunity to younger players.
Diggs also seemed ready to move on. Always one of the NFL’s most outspoken wide receivers, Diggs had a few tantrums on the sidelines over the years when he believed Allen missed him. This ESPN story is one of the best texts on why both sides needed a split, but it would be understandable if there’s still some feelings to work out. As the Bills and Texans met in Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season, Diggs faced his former team for the first time.
The Texans beat Bills, 23-20, in one of the best matchups of the week. Diggs led Houston in receiving with six catches for 82 yards. Allen was uncharacteristically slopping, finishing only 9-of-30 for 131 yards passing. That’s about as poorly as you will ever see Allen play.
The two players briefly dapped each other up after the game, and the moment produced an instant classic sports meme. Here it is:

The Bills and Texans still both look like elite teams in the AFC. Here’s hoping we’ll get another matchup in the playoffs.
